Time Out NY Kids: NYC Parents Guide To Culture & Entertainment

Time Out NY Kids cover

As a native New Yorker, I still think of myself as a tourist in my own city. I like to take advantage of the culture, entertainment, and events in and around NYC. Before I had kids, my number one resource to “be in the know” about the best events in NYC was Time Out NY Magazine. This is a magazine I discovered and found valuable when I spent some time in Europe. Then, it finally started being published in NYC a few years ago.

Naturally, as a parent and stay at home dad, I now look to Time Out New York for Kids to fill me in on a monthly basis about what cool cultural and entertaining events are happening in NYC. Similar to their flagship magazine, the kids version features sections including arts/museums, books, film, music, stage, and featured events during the month. Their newsstand price is $2.99/month, but it is significantly cheaper (less than a buck per magazine) if you subscribe. One cool feature of the magazine is their listing by NYC area of child friendly restaurants. An example of one upcoming event promoted in their latest issue that sounds fun is “Children’s Day NYC” at the South Street Seaport on June 13th, except that the free concert & fireworks don’t start until after 7pm which is around my son’s bed time.
