BootCamp For New Dads and NYC Dads Group As Featured on NBC’s TODAY SHOW….

When I had my son four years ago, there were less than a dozen dad blogs that I cared about, two or three books on the market covering fatherhood, and no classes or workshops offered locally specifically geared towards new and expectant fathers. I was thrust into fatherhood when our son was born a month early – ill prepared – never got to those books, never got the nursery prepared, and didn’t even have our emergency bags packed. For me (and most other parents), we learn most of our parenting skills on the job, going with our gut or instincts, and through trial & error. But, it could’ve been an easier transition into parenthood if a workshop like Boot Camp for New Dads had been available to me. Boot Camp for New Dads is a national organization that’s been around for twenty years and is available in forty-six states, but NOT New York City…until about a year ago.

Fast forward: Jenna Bush Hager is pregnant and walking around the Tribeca area in lower Manhattan with her husband, Henry Hager. They pass by Tribeca Parenting and see that one of the classes offered for new and expectant parents is a perfect match for Henry. The scene: A few weeks ago at Tribeca Parenting on a weekend morning. In the room is one dad facilitating the class, three veteran dads with their little babies between 2 – 7 months old, and a room full of expectant fathers. This is “Daddy” Boot Camp for New Dads! We believe it is one of the most powerful, inspirational, and meaningful experiences for a new dad…so we agreed to let the TODAY SHOW peer in for a little while to capture the scene and vibe of this awesome workshop. They coined their segment: “TODAY’s Baby Bump: What to Expect When HE’S Expecting – a primer for dads-to-be.”
